Default Fans Rush Court - Involved in Fight w/ Players

This story is disturbing and relevant to us given the recent discussion/concern with fans rushing the court against Arizona.

Damn chucking the ball at an opponent like that = beatdown on the playground.

The NCAA doesn't care about stampedes by emotional sports fans in enclosed spaces. No safety problem there.

The fans were already rushing the court, i dont think they were rushing the court to attack a player, it just happened 2 seperate events collided.

Event 1: Player chucks ball at opposing player - Players get pissed
Event 2: Crowd is rushing court

You can actually see SEVERAL of the fans trying to defuse the situation.

There will always be a few bad eggs.

Both players and fans should be punished with suspensions and bans.

I would ban the students, suspend the players, and that is all. Take away rushing the court for safety issues? Sack up, players know better to gtfo of there.

I wish the Bhullar brothers had thrown some punches at the stupid fans. Those guys would break the little white Utah students.

Why even think about storming the court? Your team won a home game while tied for 1st place...

Why does skin color matter in this situation (or in any for that matter). Everything else in your post was good/funny except that part.

Pet Peeve of mine is when people use skin color in a negative way.

So does it matter that it was the black player throwing the ball at the white player that started this whole thing? No. Its an emotional basketball game stop trying to make it something bigger than that

Uhhh, I'm not the one that brought race up bud. I merely commented on someone else's post regarding race not mattering. I for one could give two ****s about what color a guy was that threw a ball at another guy. I was merely pointing out that in today's society within America, race will always be a part of the dialogue. Guaranteed that on First Take today somehow race was brought up in this discussion due to the fact that most of the players on the court were black and most of the folks rushing the court were white. Is it right or wrong? No, it's plain stupid, but welcome to 'Merica. Good day.

Well I mean, it probably can't be discounted. The fans were probably aware. This is a very white, religious community. They probably took notice that it was a black player who disrespected (for lack of a better term), their white player.

Of course! Otherwise, how the heck would we know what level of SPF to get when we buy our sunblock!

    Related note, Paula Deen:

Deen says, "I'm fighting to get my name back," adding, "I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name. It's like that black football player who recently came out," says Deen, referring to NFL prospect Michael Sam. "He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."
Thanks Paula for pointing out the "black" gay football player who recently came out - so we can better differentiate him from all the other races of football players who came out as openly gay this week.

Also poor Paula, so persecuted, only just give $75 million by an Arizona investor to open a new restaurant in Tennessee. Such hardship.

You sure know how to twist words into a race debate, Stephan A. Smith.

No racism intended...just pointing out that they were "Students from Orem" (yes, the city in Utah that is 90% white) who would likely be vulnerable in a fight.

Now that you mention it, I did find ONE student that was not white. Good call.

Anyway...the SEC's rule needs to be enforced throughout the NCAA. Rushing the court can be dangerous & is completely unnecessary. Fining the schools won't keep 100% of the kids off the court, yet it will absolutely increase the level of security in most arenas.

Not sure how I twisted your words into a race debate? Actually I used your words verbatim, no twisting needed. You were the one that noticed the color, white, of the students there. I didn't notice/care while watching the video until I read your comment.

Stephan A. Smith will take an event (like storming the court) that has nothing to do with race and inject race (by pointing out skin color of participants) into it... Come to think of it he does exactly what you did.

You also did it again and probably did not even realize it, when you implied that because they are white they must be vulnerable. I do not know what the make-up of a city has to do with anything.

Honestly, I just wanted to point out that EVERYTHING you originally said was good except for pointing out skin color. Nothing more, nothing less.

You specifically said that I used skin color in a negative way. If jokingly saying "white" is negative, then you absolutely did not twist my words...and everybody except for dacougar is racist.

Stephen A Smith would be proud of you for completely looking past the basis of my post and focusing on the unintentional phrasing.

Whether or not you consciously meant this as a racist remark or not, that's the way it came across to me and apparently to others as well. And yes, it was offensive. Choosing our words carefully goes a long way towards promoting goodwill.

That could get confusing, since technically caucasian includes everyone who isn't black or asian. Maybe you should use the term honky so it's clear who you mean?

Totally agree that the right fan got punched. That kid deserved it for the sucker punch he delivered on 25's teammate.

But I have to quote Puff Daddy about that punch from 25: Sucker move, for that you don't get no props.

Anyone notice the security guard right in front of 25 just getting thrown around like a rag doll? Is that a guy or a gal?
