If there is any legitimacy to these numbers, it is truly Final Four or bust this year.

The only thing I've noticed about Lunardi's accuracy in the past is he's said before how the Wildcats weren't good enough to make the tourney and they did. But seeing as how this time he's actually saying the Wildcat's have a very good chance to go very deep in the tourney....I'd say he's right on!

Since he's so good, they should just give the trophy to the Wildcats and let all the players get some much needed rest.

    Can we vote on that?

There isn't any legitimacy, but it is very nice to see.

Pretty incredible we're the odds on favorite while still missing Brash.

10% chance of Wichita st winning? I'd say his numbers are pretty far off on that one.

I find it funny they even give UCLA a chance to win the tourney.

Just to be clear, these aren't Lunardi's odds or opinion. This is some statistical rating system (teamrankings.com) being applied to Lunardi's bracket. I'm sure, like Kenpom, we are number 1 in their ratings, largely built upon the work we did pre-Ashley injury.

Do they just do a bunch of monte carlo simulations based on the latest bracket?

They beat Ohio State last year to get to the Final Four (we would have played them had we beaten OSU). They lost to Louisville by only 4 points in the semifinals. And they have most of their team back. So I wouldn't dismiss them quite so easily.

Well of course, but you can't be at least a little bit surprised to see UCLA with a 1% chance. They suck.

Ken Pomeroy answered a recent tweet of mine...because I was wondering how the Ashley injury impacted rankings... Recent games are weighed heavier than earlier games. So even though we benefit from the data when Ashley was on the court, if we were performing poorly now we would be dropping quickly.

You don't think Wichita would win 1 out of every 10?

UCLA doesn not suck. They're in the group of teams just below us. The tier where they can win it all, but it would be a surprise.

Exactly. Lunardi gets paid big money to make up brackets (often ignoring the very basic rules of team seedings in terms of locations and conferences) - NOT to bother to project results based on analytics, that's for interns and free nerd sites.

Can I assume you've chanted "Overrated" at opposing teams in McKale once the Cats beat them?

In no world does UCLA "suck" this year.

UCLA is a dangerous team, 1% isn't crazy at all.

I just don't see it, UCLA has very few marquee wins. I think they get exposed in the tourney if anything.

I like the numbers here being that they are in our favor, however, I don't put much legitimacy on them. These mathematical algorithms are based on statistics only and leave out all intangibles. I like what the statistics have to say though!!

He's a pundit. He's paid to have opinions. He's wrong occasionally. Or, we were deservedly a bubble team that year and we got hot for 2 games.

We've lost to some lesser teams in the tournament as well when things just went wrong for the wrong game.
