Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis Now Calling on 2015 SF Ray Smith; Arizona Says He’s ‘Near the Top of Their List’
    February 11th, 2014 1:55 pm
Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and Memphis are among those now calling on 2015 Las Vegas High small forward Ray Smith, Dream Vision director Clay Williams told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-7 Smith chimes in at No. 29 on the Scout.com Top 100 rankings for 2015 and Williams told SNY.tv he’s a future pro.

Williams said Duke associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski may “kill two birds with one stone” by coming out to see both Smith and 2015 center Chase Jeter — No. 18 on Scout — sometime this spring. Jeter is due to visit Duke March 8 for the North Carolina game, and Williams said Duke “loves” him.

“Coach Wojo called and said he’s planning to making preparations to see him and maybe kill two birds with one stone with [Smith] and Chase,” Williams said.

As for when Duke might see him, Williams said, “[Wojo] didn’t really give any indication but I’m pretty sure we play in April. He’ll be out at least by then if not sooner.”

Kansas assistant Kurtis Townsend and Memphis head coach Josh Pastner have also checked in.

“Kansas has called and Memphis has called,” Williams said. “Pastner said that he’s heard about Ray and he’s excited to see him and follow him this spring and summer.”

Kentucky’s Orlando Antigua has also checked in.

“Kentucky made mention of him but they’re not recruiting him heavy,” Williams said. “They made mention of Ray but they haven’t recruited Ray yet. They’re just asking questions. ‘Hey, do I need to get out and see this kid? How special is he?”

Meantime, West Coast schools Arizona, UCLA and USC are all over him, too.

“Arizona said Ray is on the top of our list,” Williams said. “Coach [Sean Miller] said, ‘He’s right near the top of our list.”
Smith plays AAU ball with 2015 bigs Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman and all three will be getting a ton of attention this spring and summer on the adidas circuit leading up to and including the adidas 3 Stripe Camp in Chicago during the July evaluation periods.

“Ray’s on the trail of creating a lot of excitement,” Williams said. “Deservedly so, he’s a player.”

Are they related? He's our number one priority at SF without a doubt.

Different positions. Hard to say who's the biggest priority after Ivan Rabb, but small forward is definitely a position of need for 2015 and he's the best one on the west coast.

Don't think we're involved with Stone at all but feel free to correct me. I'd say our priorities after Rabb are: Simon, Smith, Comanche in some order.

Simon is probably in there somewhere, too.

You can forget about Stone, too. He's not coming to Arizona.

Smith would be our starting SF when/if we get him.
