Josiah Turner has pulled out of the USA Basketball U19 training camp that begins today in Colorado.
UA associate head coach James Whitford said via text message that Turner chose not to attend because he "had some family commitments in Sacramento that he did not want to miss."
USA Basketball did not post a release on its website about Turner's decision but edited him out of its camp roster, while spokesman Craig Miller issued an email saying the team was told Thursday that Turner withdrew because of "schedule conflicts."
As one of only three high school players invited to the camp, Turner faced stiff -- but potentially valuable -- competition to make the 12-man team. Among the other guards in camp are Michigan State's Keith Appling, Memphis' Joe Jackson, UConn's Jeremy Lamb and incoming ASU guard Jahii Carson.
Turner, who switched from Sacramento High School to the Quality Education Academy in North Carolina during the middle of last season, is expected to enroll in summer classes at UA next month.
