I saw Miller talk today at a luncheon and wanted to pass along a few things.
First off he is always so good at these things, he just does such a great job at speaking.
He started the speech off talking about how much he loves Tucson and that people can stop asking him if he likes it here. He pointed out that Tucson is the perfect place for a basketball coach in that it has passionate fan base and it feels like a small town without actually being one.
He mentioned that Gordon was a great defender, and then re-emphasized GREAT. Called RHJ a GOOD defender. Most of what Miller has said publicly about Gordon has been to minimize his skills, etc, but this time he pointed out that he was MVP of the bothe the U-19 USA team and McDonalds game. More hyping him up than what he has done so far.
He made some great remarks about Solomon Hill, and what a great person and player he is.
All the rest was coach speak about playing as a team, don't look ahead, etc.
Pointed out that recruiting rankings are good, but don't really mean anything. His best class to date was his first one. 2 first round draft picks, and a point guard that was second in the country in scoring, after leaving here.
Did mention Reuben Douglas as an example of how playing within the team is more beneficial than trying to get yours. Douglas led the nation in scoring, but he left because Arenas was getting PT. Who turned out to make more money and be more successful?
