There has been some heated debate about Miller's coaching and key comparisons and I would like to point out how important this year is for Miller. He has been recruiting at a very high level the last couple years, and things haven't turned out perfect, and I'm sure he will admit that. However this year must turn out pretty good or recruits will stop listening.
Recruiting is the life blood for these coaches and Miller and his staff have certainly figured out the recruiting part, its after they get here that seems to have some hiccup. Highly rated recruits have not exploded like we have seen in the past or at other schools. This will hinder his recruiting if this continues and I think several key recruits for next year and the year after are going to be watching to see what happens with the Cats and Gordon. Recruits want to play for a team that has a chance to win a title and also want to develop their game so they can play in the NBA (ready for it or not).
This year the whole country, from the media to recruits, will be judging how we do. I think if we can get to the final four or have a really close hard fought game against a major program in the elite 8 game, that is the only option for success. Aaron gordon has dominated everything he has been in from High school, to AAU, to the USA team and everyone is expecting him to do the same in college. Imagine if he goes for 10 and 5, and RHJ doesn't do much either. Zues or Ashley would have to turn into first round picks in order for the recruiting world not to think that Miller doesn't develop talent.
I'm not saying Gordon is going to suck, or that Miller should be fired if we don't make it to the final four, I'm merely pointing out how important this year is for Miller and our program moving forward. We must play well in conference, get a good seed, reach the final four (or come very close) and Gordon must shine in that process, or Miller's pitch to recruits will take a serious hit.
Bear Down! F Duke! Its Miller time!
