Arizona's starting shooting guard
As Arizona heads into the season, one of the big decisions Sean Miller faces is who he'll go with as the starting shooting guard.
In junior Jordin Mayes, sophomore Nick Johnson and freshman Gabe York, he has three strong options, but at this point we have to believe it's Johnson's for the taking.
The bouncy 6-foot-3 nephew of NBA great Dennis Johnson logged big minutes as a freshman -- averaging 27.9 per game to be exact -- and started the team's first exhibition game back on Halloween. During that contest, his stats would seem to indicate that he only improved his chances at the starting spot: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals in 25 minutes.
York and Mayes also shot well, but York played a team-low 12 minutes and Mayes just 17. Even if they end up as bench players this season, York and Mayes give the Wildcats two potent shooters off the bench on this high-powered, super-talented Arizona team.
