We're forgetting that everyone brings their A game against us. For the colorados and utahs of the world the game against us is the super bowl and for us it's just another game. The fact that we're undefeated is all that matters. A win is a win regardless of how it was done.
Despite what some people have said we have really improved individually. As a team, we still need to mold, but the foundation is there. However, it would be best for us to improve vastly as the season goes on.
We're still figuring out rotations and lineups still. At this point Nick and Lyons are still meshing as is the freshman in the interior. Defensively, we've actually been very good aside from lots of 3s made. The 3s isn't a concern for me. I remember that Sabatino Chen had made only 2 3s the whole year before knocking down a bunch against us.
Overall, we are definitely a work in progress. Nevertheless, we are undefeated which still holds merit.
And for those who point to this being the best start in UofA history - by record that may be true, but by performance it isn't even close. In '87-'88, our 12-0 start included beating #1 Syracuse on a neutral court, #3 Iowa in a true road game, #9 Michigan on a neutral court, and #9 Duke at home. That's four top-10 wins, with only one coming at McKale. This team's start doesn't hold a candle to the Great Ones.
Or even 2001-2002, which started out with wins over #2 Maryland and #6 Florida in NYC (I was at the FL game), followed by a win at #23 Texas, before losing at home to #8 Kansas. Remember those days, when we played four ranked teams, three in the top 10, to open a season? And that was a very young team, having lost four starters from the 2001 team.
We're 14 games into this season, and there has been absolutely no improvement either amongst individual players or as a team. The Cats also had the Bahamas trip in the pre-season, which provided extra practices over what most NCAA teams are allowed. In other words, there are no excuses for what's going on now. Johnson is following the same trajectory as last year - start off hot, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn once the calendar flipped to January. Lyons seems to be getting on everyone else's nerves, Solo is making way too many mistakes, and the frosh are lost 80% of the time. I have faith that they can come back together and get things moving, but it's got to start soon. The adjustment period should be over by now.
