He is so well spoken. I love me some Brandon Ashley
Said it before and I'll say it again.. I think Brandon leads this team in scoring. He's the man. Go get it Bash!
Wow. What a difference 2 years makes. I can still remember the interview with Pras his senior year, completely different kid. Very impressive
Get em Ashley!
Impressive. Like night and day. Would agree, and not be surprised, if BA leads this team in scoring or even pushes Zeus for rebound leader
My favorite part of this interview is something I have posted about before. When asked about what will be different about this years team he said "the motor." The fact that he is willing to admit that flaw in his game last year and mentioned it as something that will change is fantastic! It will be so fun to watch a team go all out 40 minutes a game.
I can't decide who i am most excited to watch........RHJ, TJ, Gordon, Zeus or Ashley. I think TJ and RHJ will bring a defensive intensity that we haven't seen since Reggie Geary. i love watching guys play tough 'D', and it usually leads to exciting 'O.' To have a true point guard, and a good one, is fantastic. He will set the tone and have more than a few passes show up on SportsCenter. I thought from beginning to end last year Zeus improved the most. He became a force in the middle and he even caught a pass or two. I trust that he has kept working hard and will become a beast.
We kind of know how exciting and hard-working Gordon is. I hope that his attitude rubs off on Ashley the same way I cringed at the way Jerrett's attitude did. And the motor comment made me think its true. At times Ashley looked like a race horse out there last year. Strong, fast and imposing. A couple of those drives from the free throw line where he took two strides and laid it in were things of beauty.
Ashley is the wildcard. But I, too, see a big jump in maturity in him. I didn't think I could be more excited for the season, but here I am!
Where's the PGU pregame party for the Red/ BLue game? Oct 12 can't come fast enough.
Love, LOVE, LOVE his attitude!
I hope Gordon and Ashley tear the NCAA apart this year! They can be kinda like the Bash brothers!...
"Playing hard is one of the main things"... I love that quote!
BA is the man, he's ready for a breakout sophamore season
All business. Sounds draft day ready.
i will quote from the Top 25 u of A players from The Bleacher Report (not the best source in the world but it was the first I found) about Reggie Geary:
his real role, throughout his collegiate career, was as a vocal leader and a defensive stopper.
He almost always was assigned the other team's best perimeter player. And when he guarded you, it was lights out.
The others you mentioned were good. Terry and Iggy (and Dickerson who I think was better than Bibby and Jefferson who was badass on D his last year) were the closest things the Geary. But I stand by my comment that RHJ will be the closest thing to Geary we've seen yet. Better than anyone you mentioned on the defensive end.
But this summary of Geary is basically what I meant about RHJ. At least this year, I believe defensive intensity will be his calling card.
double post. Go Cats
RHJ hasn't even proven himself on the college level, so lets not supplant our de facto leader who has been a starter the last 2 years, with that.
Would be awesome if Brandon realized his potential this season.
What a well spoken young man. So nice to see that, good post.
You lost all credibility with DWill. Yes, he made a highlight block during the white out game, but saying he had the defensive intensity of Reggie Geary is just plain wrong. Straight up, Burkhardt's quote was spot on--either TH or RHJ could bring a defensive intensity we haven't seen since Reggie. He was head and shoulders above the rest of the guys you mentioned. He managed get his minutes on teams with Damon, Reeves and Terry. Hell, he played in the nba with almost zero offensive skills.
The best defensive player seems to always be defined by steals. That's a shame because it almost completely eliminates post players. Anthony cook and Loren woods might be the two best defensive presence this cat fan has ever seen. I also would put Kenny Lofton up against Geary. Kenny may have put the record way out of reach with 4 years of pt equal to Geary. It would be close.

Also, I intentionally made the reference to Cook and Woods as two of the best defenders I've seen play as a counter to the whole idea of the best defenders to wear UA were perimeter players or wing players. PG to SF positions.
My first two sentences conveyed the wrong message of post #24.
So great to see him respond with such focus after the U19 tryouts. Saying how much he worked on his motor warmed my heart. Can't wait to see his sustained intensity. I think with that, everything else falls into place for the young man.
