I heard someone make this comparison and then saw it again today. Interesting... I was curious what others thought. I'll do some of the dirty work here..
Arizona Baylor Non Conf Record 12 - 0 13 - 0 Non Conf SoS 17 51 Conf Record 3-1 12-6 Conf Rank 3rd 3rd eFG% 53.6% 52.3% TO% 20.8% 20.4% Reb% 57.1% 53.5% FT Rate 40.5% 35.7% % shots from 3 38.6% 38.0% Assist % 56.6% 56.4% Offense Rating 12th 10th Defense Rating 34th 40th Tempo 67.7 66.6 Bench Minutes 30.8% 30.1% Avg Experience 1.6 years 1.54 years Effective Height +3.9 +4.2
Without reference, some of these stats don't mean much. But I promise that they are all VERY close for the most part. The obvious differences are that Arizona rebounds much better and gets to the FT line better.
Also, although there is a similar distribution of points, height, and bench minutes, Baylor's production came more from their bigs whereas Arizona's is coming more from the guards and wings. Also, Baylor's PG situation is a huge difference from AZ's since Jackson was averaging nearly 6 apg, whereas Arizona distributes assists among the whole team.
Overall, I like this comparison though. Baylor was a 3 seed that lost in the elite eight to the eventual NC team. It looks like Arizona already has a better team, with room to grow. If we are still expecting a 2ish seed, with a somewhat more watered down field, you have to like where things are going!
