What is going on with timeouts at games?
I went to the FSU/BC game Saturday, and it seemed every minute there was a timeout, I don't see how the players can get into any kind of rhythm. Some of the "official" timeouts were so long that the college brought in activity (kids shooting baskets in all sorts of company marketing gimmicks like big rubber burritos, or full size team jerseys, or a guy proposing to his girlfriend) just to keep the fans entertained.
I can't believe every team doesn't do a full court press, just to get some exercise. If I was the coach I'd probably have them shooting baskets just to keep them warmed up. The players really don't need to be in any kind of physical shape, amazing that Josh Smith wasn't more dominant in a game. Plus I don't even know what the heck the coaches can be talking to the players about for so long during these timeouts? What they had for breakfast that morning, what did they buy at the store the day before, how's the homework coming along?
It was really frustrating to try and watch the game, every time a team started going on a run, a timeout would come. Sometimes I couldn't even remember who had the ball before the timeout, was it a foul, a made basket, a free throw?
Watching all the Arizona games on TV (or the internet, sigh) I really didn't get the same feelings as I got seeing a game in person (Plus I am always screaming at the TV and storming out of the room). Are all these extra timeouts ruining the game, the all mighty dollar has become so important to all the schools that the basketball game has become secondary, let alone have the basketball game be entertaining to watch.
This has to stop, it is destroying the game!!!
