Yeah, I don't think that record is going to be broken anytime soon.
Someone that takes that many deserves to have that many points.
27/71 3PT attempts?
Granted that's 38% but DAMN!
idc how many points he had, if i was a coach and one of my players put up 71 3's in a game he would be benched. that is ****ing ridiculous and the definition of a ball hog. i wonder how many assists they had in the game...... impressive numbers but still. basketball is a team game.
I'm sure he's a hell of a passer too.
Rofl thats Grinnell thats the way they play.
Its a shame he is in the record books shooting 38% from 3 that's embarrassing wasn't even like he had a hot hand that night, just a ball hog. Style of play or not color me not impressed.
the best part may actually be that a player on the other team score 70... lmao. and gets no mention.
70... on 38/48 shooting. That's much more impressive to me.
That said, Grinnell had someone on their team score 89 last year. This looks like Grinnell is doing these stunts on purpose. Recruiting, perhaps? Take one of the easiest games on your schedule and see if you can get some recognition?
Let's put it this way -- Sean Miller, or basically any top 50 team coach, could every year schedule a Division 2 team and do the same. Just take your star player and keep him on the floor for 40 minutes, then have the rest of your team run a high risk/high reward press designed to make the other team turn it over or score quickly. Then, keep giving it to your star player to chuck. The sheer difference in talent will ensure that the team wins easily, and one school dominates the record books.
But hopefully nobody would do this, because it would be a complete douchebag move. When you're in the D3, though, I think the publicity would outweigh any criticism.
Even if the thought of T.J. McConnell going for 40 assists sounds like it would be a lot of fun to watch...
I think keeping up that level of efficiency through what had to be crazy fatigue is impressive to me.
I wonder how the other team felt being down by 60 while the star player continues to jack up threes at such an alarming rate?
Why would the other just not hold the ball and not let this kid rack up points against you
Did he ever cross half court on defense?
I would have gone to a 3 man triangle zone and had the other 2 defenders glued to him before I let a 5'10" shooter drop 138 on my team.
Heres the crazy thing... combined the two teams put up 218 shots in the game. Thats 5 and a half shots a minute or about 1 every 11 seconds (the Jack kid had 3 attempts a minute). Can you imagine that pace? Thats faster than a video game on rookie mode. Im serious, go out on the court run the length of it, shoot a shot, then run back and do it again. 11 seconds! for 40 minutes!
Because of that, regardless of playing style, lack of defense (there wasnt any defense), whatever... this is pretty amazing. And even if they tried breaking it, it'd be quite a task.
Some other things that stand out - two guys had 16 and 15 TO's. Grinnell had 22 assists. On 68 made shots, thats less than a third.... which begs the question: how the **** did they get the ball down so quick. Steal and shoot? Ala NBA Live on rookie mode hhahaha
Here's the rest of it: Faith Baptist Bible at Grinnell College | Box Score | 11/20/2012: D3hoops.com
Ok... Are you all serious!? Who gives a **** about any other part of that game... A dude scored 138 points. Don't care how efficient he was.. He dominated and his team won. That's damn insane.
How much longer until we offer him a scholarship? Haha
The coach and team did this for the press. The guy had the hot hand and they kept feeding him on purpose. I'm not sure that's really being a ball hog if your team and coach want you to do it.
Now imagine if we kept Kadeem in the game against Colorado so he could beat LT's all time NCAA rushing record?
D-III Player's 138 Point-Game Is A Sham Record And Shouldn't Be Celebrated By Anyone
i just read this article on Deadspin and it was pretty much a scam, the whole game was ran based on this guy throwing as many shots at the hoop as possible.
Also, he is white.
