Juco post player Matt Korcheck is someone Arizona fans may know from his days at Sabino HS in Tucson, but he is also on Sean Miller and the Wildcats' radar as a potential addition to the 2012 class. PGU caught up with Korcheck's coach, Jerry Carillo, to talk about the Arizona native's progress on the court and his recruitment.

"He's 6'9, strong, athletic, he can run, jump, rebound above the rim, and he cover his man," Carillo told PGU. "He can sprint from rim to rim and he has a lot of upside. Right now he's having the most productive season of his life. He never put up numbers like this at any other stage of his career and he's leading a team now."

Korcheck's play has earned him a lot of interest from around the country, including the Arizona coaching staff.

"James Whitford came and saw Matt in late September and coach Miller came down in early December to a home game," Carillo said. "And most recently coach Pasternack came out to Phoenix College to see him. They've seen him twice in live games and once in a practice setting."

"Oklahoma offered him early, Missouri offered early, Pittsburgh offered with the intent to redshirt, New Mexico did as well," he added. "Auburn is recruiting him, they want him a lot, they called three times today for him. Arizona has not officially offered him. They're still evaluating him and they want to see more of him."

As a Tucson native, Korcheck is already very familiar with the Arizona program.

"He's been to the Arizona campus a million times being from Tucson, so he hasn't scheduled a visit," Carillo said. "He played at one of their camps and he was there for their game against San Diego St as well."

Though he is gaining national attention, Carillo said recruiting is not a something that's on Korcheck's mind right now.

"He's atypical in that he's not into recruiting, he's just not into that," Carillo said. "We're ranked 15th in the nation so he's focused on winning a championship right now.

Ultimately, Carillo said Korcheck is looking for a place that will take the time to develop his game and allow him to grow as a player.

"Matt is a guy that's willing to invest three years in him," Carillo said, "He's looking for a place that would allow him to redshirt a year and be a 'five year guy,' so to speak, for someone."

Its nice to see a local Tucson player getting the recognition and attention he deserves for his hard work. If he continues to improve at his current rate it will really pay off in the future!
      Keep it up MK!

Any of you local yokels have highlights? Wasn't Kyryl pretty highly touted at some point? The one and only highlight i've ever seen of kyryl was a dunk in the jefferson gym that was all but impressive. Now I know why. That said, Shabazzzzzzzzzzzzz or bust! (Don't worry, I won't hold my breath)

After hearing that Korcheck brought down a rim, I know why Miller would want him.
It would bring back fond memories of his Pitt days.
      "Send it home, Jerome!" :>)

This guy will be a beast in a program that has the opportunity for him to grow. You will hear more about him and there are a lot of teams that are going to make a run at him.
