Arizona Media Day: Grant Jerrett
A five star prospect and one of the most decorated high school players in the country, 6'10 freshman Grant Jerrett has seen his share of the spotlight. But despite all the national attention, somehow Jerrett manages to stay shockingly humble.
"I don't look at it that way, the success I've had in the past was great but it's in the past now," Jerrett said. "I'm just working hard every day to get better and put myself in a position to succeed."
At La Verne Lutheran High School, Jerrett was often relied on to score in the post and put the team on his shoulders. But on an Arizona squad that suddenly has great post depth, Jerrett will be surrounded by talented players.
"It's great to have so many talented players on the roster," Jerrett said. "As a team you can give the opponent a lot of different looks, so it's good to have a lot of guys who can contribute."
A post player with legitimate height, but also a feathery jumpshot and rare mobility, Jerrett is a potential matchup nightmare. He combines good athleticism and length to score effectively around the basket, but perhaps his greatest skill is being able to shoot from midrange and even three point distance.
"That's definitely part of my game, I know I'm capable of making shots," Jerrett said.
Though we don't know for certain who will be in the starting lineup yet, you can expect Jerrett's name to be in the mix. But whether he is part of the first five or second five isn't something he's thinking about.
"Our goal is to win as many games as possible," Jerrett said. "I'm going to do my best to come in every day, work hard, and give everything I have. The rest will take care of itself."
