Thursday night will be round two for the Colorado Buffaloes and Arizona Wildcats. Their first matchup at Coors Event Center was one full of runs and droughts but in the end Colorado escaped with a one point lead. Now Colorado at 16-8 and 8-3 in conference play will look to make a run to the top of the league but a trip to McKale is no cakewalk. Since we last met, the Buffaloes have gone 3-1; a record with a loss to the Bruins and their best winning coming from Oregon.
Another matchup between the Pacs two best defensive teams should turn out to be a good one. In their previous meeting we shut down their best player Andre “Dre” Roberson limiting him to zero points and seven boards. The story on the Buffalo team was Carlon Brown, Austin Dufault and Spencer Dinwiddie. The three of these players combined for 44 points and 16 boards.
For Arizona in the last meeting, they had their worst three point shooting game of the year. Arizona went 3 for 20; brick after brick on wide open looks. On the contrary both Solomon Hill and Jesse Perry produced double doubles and Kyle Fogg added 16 points. Josiah Turner had a terrific game putting up 9 points, 5 boards, 3 assist and 1 steal.
Now that these two clubs have familiarized themselves with each other it will be interesting to see the outcome of round two. I highly doubt that we will shut down Roberson; since the Arizona game, Dre has produced three double doubles and in his most previous game he was three points and three blocks away from a triple double. I also believe that it’s safe to say that Arizona will not miss so many open looks from downtown; we average 7.5 threes a game which is first in the conference. Chol will be fun to watch, with his most recent opportunities he has proved to be effective especially in defending the basket; in the last two games he has 6 blocks. I will keep my eye not only on Chol but I will look to Josiah Turner to be the impact player. My prediction Arizona 69-61.
