Heading into this week, 2014 Westwind Prep (AZ) wing Zylan Cheatham had no plans to take an unofficial visit to Arizona… Or anywhere for that matter.
“The Arizona visit came out of nowhere actually,” Cheatham told PointGuardU.com. “Coach Whitford called and said he wanted me to come and sit down with Coach Miller and himself, and then watch the Stanford game.”
While it was a spur of the moment for the 6-foot-7 athlete, it was definitely worth it in the end.
“I was really impressed with the game and the atmosphere. The crowd was amazing. They really got into the game.”
Sean Miller and his staff have yet to extend an offer to the Cheatham, who has blown up out West recently. He has plenty of other offers and interest to go around, though.
To this point, he holds several offers, including New Mexico, Arizona State, Memphis, Utah, Colorado, Boise State, and California, among others.
“I’m also receiving interest from Kentucky, Syracuse, NC State, Indiana, Arizona and some others,” he explained.
Despite not having an offer yet, Cheatham says he has some interest in the Wildcats and their program.
“I definitely have interest in Arizona. Coach Miller and Coach Whitford are great coaches. They’re a top ten team right now, so they definitely get after it. Coach Miller is a great players’ coach.”
The junior is still getting a feel for the recruiting process, but he has some ideas as to when he will make his future college decision.
“November 17th. That’s when I will commit. It is my birthday and I've always dreamed of making a decision on my birthday.”
Look for Arizona to be in the mix for arguably the best in-state player Arizona has to offer.
